Heaven’s Child

By Sameer Kak

The small child looks at me,
With large wondering eyes,
A sibling of great curiosity,
He would like to question me,
But holds his tongue in deep respect,
For he is but a child in front of me.

I know his name, his family name,
He is the dutiful son,
On whom our hopes rested,
The epitome of our desire.

When young, he was exposed

To the watchful eye of friends and family,

Who groomed him,

In such a becoming manner.

The passing cloud hides his face,

But I read his mind with great clarity.

Why should he fly,

In the face of the world?

What is he trying to do?

Him that the others shall not see…

He seeks a mandate from the gods,

The door to heaven open wide for man,

Reopen the pathways to the future,

And then, reshape the world anew.
